I loathe the Potter books, or rather adults reading them (if you’re a grown up, read a grown up book… those wizard things are bigger than a Dostoevsky, so there’s no sodding excuse) but this makes JK Rowling a heroine today.

Next time a conservative is, “just playing devils’ advocate here” by suggesting that society shouldn’t support single mothers / welfare junkies, give them the answer: JK Rowling. This woman has raked in millions from overseas, and therefore given a substantial sum to the treasury that would otherwise have never made it to British shores. Of course, not every single mother on welfare will do what she did; Rowling may be the one-in-a-million, but how many people belonging to that million has she supported by her honest citizenship?

Paying taxes is patriotic. It helps your country and its people to unlock their potential. The tea-baggers are spitting on the flag.

Oh, and David Cameron is a vile, doughy toff in Blairite drag.
